PROFILE
Peter C.J. Parsonage Background: Peter operates a small business, PARSONAGE TECHNOLOGY, specialising in Research and Development (R&D) work conducted for a variety of clients. He is a professionally qualified Electronics Engineer with 40+ years of practical experience. Peter initially operated an office in the AUT Technology Park complex but now works from his well equipped laboratory/workshop on his lifestyle block at the top of the Bombay Hills 50kms South of Auckland city. He undertakes a wide variety of projects for various clients, sometimes employing part-time staff (usually University students – to give them practical experience) to assist him. Whenever possible he utilises microprocessor technology to produce flexible and cost-effective designs. If the client knows what he wants to achieve then Peter can usually either show that it is not practical, or build a prototype incorporating new ideas and technology which then becomes the sole property of his client. When there is an "innovative step" in the design that Peter produces then he can file a provisional patent specification and assign that to the client.
Qualifications and Work Experience: The initial training for Peter was as a NZ Post Office radio technician working on radio receivers, VHF mobile and base station equipment and microwave radio links. He completed all available qualifications for technicians and went on to Auckland University, graduating with an honours degree in Electrical Engineering completed in 1974. Peter then worked as an assistant engineer for the NZ Electricity Department with his major project being the replacement of all the 220KV air-blast circuit breakers at the Whakamaru switching station in the Central North Island. From 1977 through to 1986 Peter worked in Technical Institutes as a Tutor teaching many of the subjects in the NZ Certificate courses, specialising in digital electronics. His book, "Digital Electronics Engineering", was published by Longman Paul in 1986. Noting the growing interest in personal computing Peter established Pacific Computers Ltd in late 1985, building this company to become a major importer and retailer on the NZ scene. After selling Pacific Computers in 1988, Peter has worked on a wide variety of projects, which include:
And there have been many more little projects developed along the way.
Experience in Innovation: Peter has undertaken many different projects over the past 15 years and is always looking for new challenges. He particularly enjoys taking on projects that others consider as "impossible" or "too expensive to develop" and will often work very long hours just to see a project through to completion. Some of the projects Peter has been involved in include:
